The Quatsino First Nation has applied for funding to hire and train a Band member in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and computer mapping, and also to set up and maintain a referrals tracking and management system.
The successful candidate will receive classroom training in ArcGIS in Victoria and then hands-on training in the Quatsino GIS lab with an experienced GIS technician. In-house training will be linked to the Quatsino Traditional Use Study (TUS), the new referrals tracking and management system, the forestry program and other Quatsino initiatives.
The successful candidate also will receive hands-on training in referrals processing and responding, using the new Quatsino referrals tracking and management system as it is being developed and implemented. In-house training will be conducted with an experienced referrals technician and will be linked to the Quatsino First Nation Vision Statement.
