The Quatsino Fisheries department is looking for interested people that like the outdoors. We are looking for about 5 harvesters for our Sea Asparagus Project. As the season is almost upon us, we are putting together the harvesters to get out on the beach. NOTE: This is a piece-work position – you will be paid based on the weight of asparagus harvested.
While this is not a very physically demanding job, you will need to be in reasonable shape as you need to be able to move around the beach and lift the asparagus you harvest. To some extent, you will be bent over much of the time, so must have a good back!
- must be interested in the outdoors;
- must be in reasonable physical condition;
- first aid an asset;
- drivers licence an asset;
- having raingear and rainboots or ability to get them is required.
The length of possible harvesting is from date of hire to hopefully the end of August. This depends on the sea asparagus and its quality. Training will be provided and transportation options will be discussed. This will be a yearly project and could extend into other products if the interest is there. If you are interested in this opportunity, please submit a resume and cover letter to Dave Schmidt at the Band Office or by Fax at (250) 902-0638, or email – fisheriesquatsinofn.ca by 4:00 pm Monday, May 16, 2011. We will accept resumes after this date, and fill in where necessary.
